Apple has kicked out Epic Games

The war between Apple and Epic Games never seems to end, DMA legislation or not.

It's full-on war again

"Epic's gross breach of its contractual obligations to Apple led courts to rule that Apple has the right to terminate "any or all of Epic Games' wholly-owned subsidiaries, affiliates and/or other entities under Epic Games' control at any time and on Apple's control own discretion.” In light of Epic's past and ongoing conduct, Apple chose to exercise this right," the company said in a recent statement.

So what the hell is going on now? Epic Games explains that the iPhone company just approved Epic Games Sweden AB's developer account, which is now blocked.

“We intended to use this account to bring the Epic Games Store and Fortnite to iOS devices in Europe thanks to the Digital Markets Act (DMA). To our surprise, Apple has terminated the account and now we cannot develop the Epic Games Store for iOS. This is a serious violation of the DMA and shows that Apple has no intention of allowing real competition on iOS devices.”

According to Apple, this is the reason

As is known, the DMA law is activated in Sweden and the 27 EU member states, among others, with effect tomorrow, and Epic Games points out that Apple must give developers permission to use and create their own app stores in the region. But Apple believes that Epic Games has violated other contracts and that the behavior is so wrong that they believe the account can be closed.

Epic states that one of the reasons the account was closed is because the studio publicly criticized Apple's DMA plan. Apple points, among other things, to the X thread below.

“By terminating Epic's developer account, Apple is taking out one of the biggest potential competitors to the Apple App Store. They undermine our ability to be a viable competitor, and they show other developers what happens when you try to compete with Apple or are critical of their unfair practices,” says the blog post from Epic Games.
