Satellites called in to salvage lost internet after Red Sea cables cut

Noone has claimed responsibility yet for the Red Sea subsea cable severances last week.

Communications satellites have been pressed into service to plug the gap in internet connectivity across the Red Sea following last week’s subsea cable severances. This move will help keep Europe and Asia connected until the cables can be repaired.

 

According to Hong Kong-based cable operator HGC Global Communications (HGC), four of the fifteen subsea cables in the Red Sea were cut. It is unknown who cut the cables, but HGC is one organization attempting to reroute affected traffic in the interim.
