We've got bad Windows 11 news (again)

It didn't take long...

While we can't recommend anyone to install updates as most machines are different, especially for DIYers, the 5031455 update is nice because it boosts performance. ITavisen reader "Huffalompen" also has positive experiences with the update on board:

“KB5031455 Made performance much better actually, still not great but still much better.

I just tried a stunt with loading a lot of web pages in a browser, where previously it ended with a blue screen with around 600 open tabs, then it finally passed 3000. It went in fits and starts, but it worked…..well at least until I was going to watch a YouTube video, then the whole browser froze after watching some weird film and hearing a distorted voice.

Of the 64GB of RAM, the memory usage was at 99% so it was not better to wait, if I wanted 9,000 more pages and all programs open, the Mac would probably have to be pressed ;-).”

We're not going to turn this into a Mac debate, but the Apple people will probably be happy now. Because guess what? Users are reporting issues with the otherwise fine 5031455 performance update.

Do this before installing Windows updates

There are two things: some users struggle to install the update (0x800f081f, 0x8007007e, 0x8000ffff, 0x800f0984, and 0x80073701,) while others experience the opposite of the editorial and “Huffalompen:” degraded performance.

Neowin also reports that certain users are unable to delete the update - this applies if the update cannot be installed and if it is installed but presents performance problems.

The same Microsoft newspaper recommends "System Restore" on the installation disc and creating a "System Restore Point" before installing the Tuesday updates to Microsoft - this is especially important when Microsoft's Windows Update tool itself fails to roll back KB5031455.
