Apple connoisseur Mark Gurman does not understand what Apple is doing related to AirPods Pro 2.

What Apple has done is bizarre

If you have AirPods Pro 2 without USB C, you will not get lossless sound against the Vision Pro

The company announced the AirPods Pro 2 with a USB C case, but what they didn't talk about is that they have also quietly upgraded the plugs. Apple connoisseur "Aaron" at X has discovered that there are new product names on both plugs the right one is named A3048 and the left plug is named A3047. The case? It has the product name A2968.

So what is it that is so controversial and that Mark Gurman believes is unreasonable for Apple to do? Yes, only those that are sold with a USB C charging case have support for lossless audio - this is how Apple's press release reads:

“AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) with MagSafe Charging Case (USB-C) support Lossless audio quality with ultra-low latency, delivering the ultimate completely wireless experience with Apple Vision Pro. Together with a breakthrough wireless audio protocol, the H2 chip in the latest AirPods Pro and Apple Vision Pro provides advanced 20-bit, 48 kHz Lossless audio quality – with extremely reduced latency.”

So if you just bought AirPods Pro 2, they are not compatible with Vision Pro, as Apple emphasizes: “Lossless sound quality is only available when connected to Apple Vision Pro. Available features vary by region.”
