Has revealed the big thing about "Windows 12"

In October 2022, we wrote an article about a leaked Windows 12 (?) concept from Microsoft with a completely new interface that borrows workflow ideas from mobiles and tablets.

AI becomes important in Windows 12
"Windows Central believes it is about the "Next Valley", which will probably be called Windows 12, which will be launched later in 2024.

 

As we reported in the summer of 2022, that means beta testers will be able to jump in and try soon.

 

If Microsoft plans to launch Windows 12 in 2024, it means that "Windows Insiders" (i.e. beta testers) will get access to alpha and perhaps beta code this year.

 

There has also been leaked information indicating that Microsoft will move away from smaller but frequent updates, and return to big launches, hence "Windows 12" as the next big thing with a possible launch next year.

Fast forward to CES 2023 and Microsoft's Windows and Surface boss Panos Panay took the stage with AMD CEO Lisa Su.

 

There Panay actually revealed the future of Windows, and not entirely shockingly, AI is a central piece.

 

We are only in the starting phase for AI, technologies that will change lives completely within a short time. ChatGPT is thus one of the first popular apps to introduce the world to this. The first "killer app" that opens up a new world.

Panay talked up how the cloud and AI are now coming together for the first time and are smarter than ever before.

 

Will the assistants soon become more than pre-programmed voices?
It is difficult to get anything concrete from a top manager like Panay at this stage of development beyond the fact that AMD's new products have dedicated AI chips so that the CPU and GPU are not burdened.

 

Talking about AI is too vague, but he also showed examples of how AI and the cloud make video meetings easier by manipulating the video stream in real time without the people communicating having to fiddle and screw manually.

 

Computerworld also mentions how Office will probably also get AI technology that will help users with writing and how AI can create artwork and graphics with just a few parameters entered by the user.

 

We agree with Computerworld on this, but not that "Windows 12" should be many years away from launch. We think it will come already next year, perhaps with a ChatGPT-like assistant baked in. Cortana is in many ways retired.
