The ESG business school in Paris will use artificial intelligence and facial recognition in future to determine whether or not the students will attend lectures.

Following on to the students
The software is Nestor and is being developed by the company LCA Learning. Marcel Saucet, the head of LCA Learning, stated during Nestor's announcement last week that the program uses the collected information to improve the performance of both the students and the professors.

Nestor uses the student's web cameras to analyze eye movements and facial expressions to see if the student is included in the online lecture. The software is able to create automatic clues based on when the student does not follow.

Saucet says that the professors are told when the interests of the students disappeared, which can help the professor improve the lectures.

Can be integrated with the calendar
Nestor can also be integrated with student calendars, thus encouraging reading when the student may have spent a lot of time on YouTube.

Initially, Nestor will be used in lectures that take place over the web, but the LCA Learning boss says he wants Nestor to take part in classrooms and lecture halls in the future.

In terms of privacy, Saucet says that Nestor does not store the video content and that the company has no plans to resell the information that the software collects. In addition, the data must be both encrypted and anonymous, he assures.
