It is no longer as relevant with iMessage on the iPhone as Apple, probably in the first quarter of 2024, adds support for the RCS messaging standard which is widespread with the competitor.
iMessage app removed
You probably remember Nothing's stunt in collaboration with Sunbird to be able to send and receive iMessages on the Phone 2. It all ended in failure after big security holes were discovered.
But developers keep trying. The latest stunt is the Beeper Mini that tricked iMessages from the push system from Apple - we think the same: it had to happen that the service was taken off the air. According to the company, the developers used "false credentials" to make it happen, and that it therefore posed a greater security risk for users.
Apple states:
“At Apple, we build our products and services with industry-leading privacy and security technologies designed to give users control over their data and secure personal information.
We took steps to protect our users by blocking techniques that exploit fake credentials to access iMessage. These techniques posed significant risks to user security and privacy, including the potential for metadata exposure and enabling unsolicited messages, spam, and phishing attacks. We will continue to make updates in the future to protect our users.”
Apple therefore believes that the service would also make it possible for users to receive spam and phishing messages to a greater extent than usual. We just have to wait for RCS to work simultaneously with iMessage.
