It has been a bad week for Apple, which is now losing a key person in the iPhone department.
Important for the iPhone, AirPods, and Watch emerged
This week namely Steve Hotelling disappeared. Hotelling was referred to as the company's smartest:
“Hotelling is referred to as the smartest in the company with his name on hundreds of patents, including the already mentioned touch screen on the iPhone, and iPad and he invented Touch ID. It doesn't stop there, because he also developed self-developed sensors for cameras, led the work with depth sensors for AR, vibration feedback, and the ProMotion 120Hz screens."
Now Apple is losing a key person in Tang Tan who was "Vice President of Product Design." It is a golden title at the company. The only thing we can say right now is that at least it's not the head of the AI team, but when a person responsible for iPhone and Watch design disappears, the seriousness shouldn't be understated. Tan disappeared from the company in February, so the question is whether Apple had enough time to find a talented replacement.
This is happening now
Richard Dinh takes over from Tan and, like the latter, will report to Ternus. Dinh will not be responsible for Watch: that job will go to Kate Bergeron who is "Hardware Engineering Vice President" for Mac.
In addition to designing the most important product for Apple, and the most profitable consumer product in history, Tan was also responsible for the sound development of AirPods and HomePods. Tan reported to John Ternus who has been head of the engine development group since 2021.
