"In another league"

We're almost done with our Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Watch 2 review.

The brightness war continues

And there is no doubt that the screen is very good. It also has higher brightness than the iPhone 15 Pro Max which has an unchanged panel compared to last year's top model and therefore stops at 2000 nits – the Pixel 8 Pro has 2400 nits to contend with, but that's not the whole story.

In our preliminary tests, the battery life of Google's flagship is better than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and one of the reasons is that the panel is far more energy-efficient than the Pixel 8 Pro.

Does the Samsung Pixel 8 Pro with its own panel beat the S24?

The AMOLED LTPO panel with 3120 x 1440 resolution is a Samsung E7 panel that is a whole new generation compared to the iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy top models. To reach 960 nits, only 3 W of power is needed, which is half of what the Pixel 7 Pro needs, which needs 6.4 W to reach the same brightness value. The Galaxy S22 Plus needs 4.4 w to reach 1070 nits.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra also need almost 4 w to reach 960, while the Pixel 8 Pro, as mentioned, only needs 3 w. This is at the same time as the panel is more bright. And the more brightness the user uses, the less energy is needed compared to competing mobiles.

It will be exciting to see how well the Galaxy S24 series can do, as a panel is rumored to be able to deliver a whopping 2,500 nits.
