The "Federal Trade Commission" has given Apple and the other majors permission to use 6GHz bandwidth for near-field communication. Microsoft, Google, Apple and Meta asked for permission to use the web in this way already in 2019.
Will make VR/AR communication faster
The FTC voted 5-0 in favor of its use: “The commission has established rules that allow devices that operate at very low power (VLP) over short distances and that provide very high connection speeds.
This is ideal for the kinds of cutting-edge, high-data-rate applications that will both enrich consumer experiences and strengthen the nation's economy. These include, for example, advanced augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), wearable sensors and technologies, and various Internet of Things devices,” says the FTC.
The network is range-limited (but with stronger signals than before) so that it does not destroy anything else that uses long-distance 6GHz. In addition to VR/AR headsets, sensors, and IoT devices, the industry points to the need for such quick communication that is extra secure for use in cars, including infotainment, map data, and other applications.
There is reason to believe that wearable devices, as well as AR products, will in the future become a larger part of the car experience, especially when the cars drive themselves.
