These iPhone models cannot install iOS 17

So it was still true: iPhone X and 8 cannot install iOS 17.

Minimum requirements for the OSes revealed


We're currently testing the OSes and will come back with a preview, but until then there's a lot of news to report. First things first: iOS 17 requires Apple's A12 Bionic and later. That means the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X are all just too old to install.

 

As you know, developers can download it now. Everyone else can try next month.

 

These can upgrade:

  • iPhone XS – XS Max

     

  • iPhone XR

     

  • iPhone 11

     

  • iPhone 11 Pro – Pro Max

     

  • iPhone 12 – 12 mini

     

  • iPhone 12 Pro – Pro Max

     

  • iPhone 13 – 13 mini

     

  • iPhone 13 Pro – Pro Max

     

  • iPhone 14 Pro – Pro Max

     

  • iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)

     

What about iPadOS 17? These can install:

 

  • iPad Pro (2nd generation and later)

     

  • iPad Air (3rd generation and later)

     

  • iPad (6th generation and later)

     

  • iPad mini (5th generation and later)

     

These Macs can install macOS 14 Sonoma:

 

  • iMac 2019 and newer

     

  • Mac Pro 2019 and later

     

  • iMac Pro 2017 and newer

     

  • Mac Studio 2022

     

  • MacBook Air 2018 and later

     

  • Mac Mini 2018 and newer

     

  • MacBook Pro 2018 and newer

     

These Apple Watch models can install watchOS 10:

 

  • Apple Watch Series 4

     

  • Apple Watch Series 5

     

  • Apple Watch SE

     

  • Apple Watch Series 6

     

  • Apple Watch Series 7

     

  • Apple Watch Series 8

  • Apple Watch Ultra
