The EU is now investigating TikTok's data transfers to China and targeted advertising aimed at minors.

Buzzfeed may have revealed something that will lead to legislative changes in the EU

There is talk of several investigations that are now taking place within the EU system against TikTok and its owner ByteDance. The EU will now investigate the way TikTok manages its users

 

In a letter from the EU's Ursula von der Leyden, it is stated, among other things, that "under the EU's data protection regulations, companies in the EU that transport personal data to third-party countries must meet the requirements for international transfers."

Tonight it was also revealed that the UK is scrutinizing Apple and Google extra closely.

 

Furthermore, it states that:

“Tiklok's data practices, including with regard to international data transfers, are the subject of several ongoing proceedings. This includes an investigation by the Irish DPA into TikTok's compliance with several GDPR requirements, including data transfers and the processing of data about minors.”

 

Von der Leyden's letter comes after Buzzfeed's article that Chinese authorities "potentially" have gained access to EU citizens' TikTok data.

 

In the US, TikTok has already moved to Oracle.
