This is the new generation Snapdragon with Unreal Engine 5

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the name of the new chip to be used by top Android models. The first will actually come later this year, ie this month, with more on the way in the first half of 2022.

“AI, camera, gaming, and connectivity”
The Snapdragon 888 was also unveiled on December 1, so Qualcomm follows the tradition this year as well.

The new chip is powerful enough to support Unreal Engine 5 with its 3GHz CPU and Kryo CPU cores. Qualcomm only refers to the GPU as Adreno, and says that it is "25 percent more efficient and 30 percent faster" and "the first Snapdragon platform with support for UE 5."

The AI chip is also greatly improved by four times the 888 performance, while the CPU performance is not greatly enhanced as it is quite similar to its predecessor.

Other things that are in place are an X65 5G modem with up to 10 Gbps (as the world's first) and WiFi 6e.

Tackles 8K video
The chip's new "Sight 18-bit ISP" handles up to 8K video @ 30FPS. It can handle 4000 times more data than the 14-bit chip in its predecessor and can snap images up to 3.2 gigapixels per second.

In practice, this means that Gen 1 can process data from 3 x 36MP cameras simultaneously without layers ”.

4K @ 120FPS and 720p slow motion @ 960FPS are also in place.

Always-on camera
What is interesting from a consumer perspective, regardless of all the numbers, is that it also has an image processor that is always on and that gives life to the camera almost without using battery life. This also provides support for always-on face detection.

Support for new aptX Lossless means streaming CD quality (16-bit 44.1kHz) over a wireless connection.

On the security front, we find built-in support for Google's Android Ready SE, which in turn provides the ability to store car keys and ID.
