Apple has a plan B.
Next year, the first 5G phones will be on the market. There is probably Android that will first take advantage of the technology, but by 2020, Apple will introduce its first iPhone with 5G.

It claims an anonymous source Fast Company has been in contact with.
Not pleased with Intel
Apple is supposed to plan to use Intel's 8161 5G chip in its 2020 models. However, it is a prerequisite - Intel must solve several challenges for this to happen, including a relatively complicated problem with too high heat causing the chip.
According to the source, Apple is unhappy with Intel's failure to resolve the issue but still wishes to keep the deal with the company so far. Intel has over a year to solve the problems, and according to the source, it is not appropriate for Apple to enter into an agreement with Qualcomm for the delivery of 5G chips.
Perhaps not so strange considering all the differences between Apple and Qualcomm.
Plan B
Intel's 8161 chip will be manufactured using the 10-nanometer process, which will provide high speed and higher efficiency. 5G technology could be up to 100 times faster than today's 4G technology.
Should Intel fail to keep the deadline, Apple has added a plan B. According to Fast Company's sources, Apple has been in dialogue with the company MediaTek for possible delivery of 5G chips.
