In spite of the fact that Gmail usually has a robust system for unzipping spam, more users have recently experienced the opposite.

The sink with junk mail
Mashable writes that Gmail users have flocked to Google's Forum to complain about an amount of junk mail that has appeared in the inbox. A strange thing is that the junk mail appears to be sent from users' own accounts. This also applies to users who have enabled two-factor authentication and have changed their password.

The website writes that the bakers have adapted the subject field in the emails so it appears that the message is from the Canadian company Telus and thus tricked the filter to Google. As it appeared that the messages came from the same user, Gmail has placed these in users' sent items folders.

In a statement to Mashable, a spokesman for Google says that this is a junk mail campaign that affects a small number of Gmail users and that the company has stopped it. Telus confirms to the website that the e-mails did not come from the company's servers.
