This focus continues in the next edition of Firefox (58), where Mozilla introduces two new features for a faster browser. This is a stream compilation and a web assembly compiler consisting of two layers. That way, Firefox will compile code on the go.
"If you start compiling earlier, you will be done earlier. That's what stream compilation does, to start compiling the .wasm file as quickly as possible, "explains Mozilla.
Speed is the keyword in Firefox Quantum.
According to the company, Firefox 58 will be able to compile between 30 and 60 megabytes of web assembly code every second on PC and eight megabytes per second on PC. Mozilla explains that this will lead to significant speed improvements because the new method is up to 15 times faster than the current one.
The update also closes the Spectre and Meltdown CPU holes.
Firefox 58 launches January 23th for Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
