The USB 3.0 group, including Apple, HP, Intel, and Microsoft today announced USB 3.2.

Much sharper with the same cables, but you need new equipment
The great thing about the new standard is that you luckily do not have to replace all USB C cables you may have, and with USB 3.2, the data is transported in several channels:

Either 2 x 5GB per second or two channels at 10GB per second.

2GB per second
A USB 3.2 device connected to a USB 3.2 storage device (external drives and so may have support) will be able to move 2GB per second with a USB C cable certified for USB SuperSpeed 10GB / s USB 3.1.

The final specifications are expected to be completed September this year in time for the first USB 3.2 products in the new year.
