The well-known GPU leaker "kopite7kimi" on X is back with a new and important leak in relation to Nvidia's GeForce RTX series.
Is Nvidia raising prices again?
The leaker believes that Nvidia is changing the order this year and will launch the RTX 5080 before the RTX 5090, which as a small digression makes us nervous about what they might come up with to price the 5090. Will there be another round of prices far above the indicative with ditto low availability? Lekkeren's surprise came as a response to a TechPowerUp article that claims Nvidia will only launch the 5090 this year, and that the 5080, 5070, and 5060 will launch next year.
4080 therefore came one month after 4090, which was launched in October 2022. If we only include price strategy in the big launch plan, it would make sense in every way to launch the slightly cheaper card first. Nvidia received criticism that the 4080 was not good enough for the price, and although the 4090 received a lot of praise for its performance, the prices were for a long time well above NOK 25,000. Nvidia launched the Super series at lower prices and higher performance in January this year.
