It looks like Spotify is getting its revenge on Apple

The Financial Times reveals that the EU plans to give Apple a fine of 500 million euros, almost NOK 6 billion.

“Big fine on the way”

The commission is expected to announce the fine early next week. According to the EU, Apple has broken the monopoly law in the region related to Apple Music and alternative streaming services on Apple's operating systems. More specifically, it concerns how Apple highlights its own service, according to the EU, and how users are misled from finding alternative services. The investigation must have been ongoing since Spotify complained to Apple in 2019.

Starting with iOS 17.4 in EU countries, launching Safari will allow users to select a browser with a download link and make it even easier to set the default browser. It is not yet known what changes Apple will have to make to comply with the regulations, but giving users more options when starting Apple Music is a possibility. The company has the opportunity to appeal the judgment.
