Is the browser nonsense in Windows finally about to be solved?

The history surrounding Microsoft's constant attempts to push Windows users over to its own browser, Edge, is so long that we can hardly remember all the stunts.

One-click is finally all it takes
But the company has been blocking third-party apps that make it easy to set third-party browsers as the default for all relevant file types related to browsing, but now it seems we're getting closer to a solution.

 

At least with Windows 10 22H2 (which can currently be found in the "Release Preview" channel) and Chrome Dev, which now finally makes it possible to set Google's browser as the default with one click.

As we previously reported, this is on its way to Chrome in the stable version – Firefox and Opera already support one-click to set them by default. Now we're just waiting for this to work in Windows 11 as well, which it currently doesn't.

 

“Make Chrome the default browser. This feature works by traversing the URL protocols and file associations that are related to general browsing, e.g. HTTP, HTTPS, .html, etc., directly specifying the relevant registry entries for each,” Google wrote about the new feature in late July.
