This is how mobile cameras get better with a shrunken Samsung sensor

Samsung has presented the Isocell HP3 with 200MP which is the smallest so far in the class.

It was in 2019 Samsung started with 108MP
The advantage of the improvement is that premium mobiles can offer a thin design and even better camera quality, even when the lighting conditions are poor.

 

And there is more:

 

• Improved autofocus with Super QPD (with pixel-level autofocus)
  
  

• Improved performance when there are weak light sources
  
  

• The improved dynamic range of colors with "multi-gain" ISO
  
  

• 0.56 micrometer (μm) pixels
  
  

• 8K @ 30 FPS
  
  

• 4K @ 120 FPS
  
  

• 14-bit color depth (4 trillion colors)

 

So much smaller is the sensor
Samsung explains that the HP3 is 12 percent smaller than its predecessor's 0.64μm. The area where the module is to be placed is reduced at the same time by 20 percent, and this is mainly how this makes it possible for manufacturers to still offer equally thin mobiles, but with better camera properties.

 

The technology allows the sensor to emulate a large pixel sensor to take brighter and more vivid images even in dimmed environments, such as indoors or at night.

 

The mass production of the chips will start later this year, so expect the first mobiles with the chip next year. Apple traditionally uses Sony, if not we would have thought this was on the way to the iPhone 14.
