With the law in hand, Apple will be forced to accept third-party app stores and page loading

In the United States, Democrats and Republicans have agreed on a new bill that will allow for greater competition between app stores and that will force Apple to open iPhones for third-party app stores and page loading.

Open App Markets Act
The Open App Markets Act is aimed at in-app payment systems for app stores with more than 50 million users in the United States. If the bill passes, Apple and Google will not be able to require developers to either distribute apps through their app stores or use their in-app payment system.

In addition to opening third-party app stores, the bill will allow page loading.

Epic vs. Apple cases
During Epic's case against Apple, Apple repeatedly stated that third-party app stores would compromise iOS security. For the same reason, the company would not allow page loading.

During Epic's case against Apple, Apple repeatedly stated that third-party app stores would compromise iOS security. For the same reason, the company would not allow page loading.

Turn the App Store into a flea market
The core of Epic's case is that they want developers to be able to enter their own payment information. But it would, according to Tim Cook, "make the App Store a flea market".

Although it is constantly reported that the App Store approves scams, the company believes that downloading and purchasing apps should still be centralized.

Exception
The bill allows for exceptions for security reasons. Exceptions will not be unlawful if they are necessary to protect users' privacy or security, prevent fraud or comply with federal or state laws.

To show goodwill, Apple has created the Small Business Program, which lowers the App Store commission for developers with revenues below $ 1 million the previous calendar year, to 15 percent, but developers still call Apple and Google's commissions "unreasonably high."

Apple has not commented on the bill, but it has Spotify:

Spotify applauds the Open App Markets Act and its proponents' courage and determination to hold Apple and other gateway platforms accountable for their unfair and anti-competitive practices.

These platforms control more trade, information and communication than ever before and the power they wield has enormous economic and social consequences.

Therefore, we urge Congress to quickly adopt the Open App Markets Act. If no action is taken, we can expect that Apple and others will continue to change the rules in favor of their own services and cause harm to consumers, developers and the digital economy.
