Intel has accidentally unveiled the next generation USB C

That a director visits various research departments around the world is nothing new.

Updating social media is nothing new either. But sometimes it is missed and unofficial information is released that provides insight into the next generation of technology. That's what happened on Sunday.

Retains the USB C connector

… And doubles the bandwidth
Intel's Gregory Bryant is in Intel's research and development department in Israel. An early Twitter post-Sunday morning was followed by another later in the day when Bryant was shown the offices and research. The post contained four images, but it was quickly deleted and replaced with three images (in the tweet above). The removed image shows new information about the next-generation Thunderbolt technology - but it was intercepted by AnandTech before it was deleted.

In this image, we can see a poster on the wall showing "80G PHY Technology", which means that Intel is working with 80 Gbps connections. This is twice the bandwidth of the Thunderbolt 4, which runs at 40 Gbps.

The second line confirms that it is a matter of continuing USB C: "USB 80G is targeted to support the existing USB C ecosystem." Intel thus aims to keep the USB C connector, but double the bandwidth.
