Secret FBI agent reveals bomb plots to paralyze internet

Last Thursday, the FBI arrested a 28-year-old Texas man for planning to blow up an Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center in Virginia, USA. The purpose was to "paralyze around 70 percent of internet traffic".

Would buy plastic explosives

Seth Aaron Pendley tried to buy explosives to blow up the data center but was revealed by a secret FBI agent who, following tips, monitored a forum on the website MyMilitia.

According to the tipper, Pendley planned to use C-4 plastic explosives to attack Amazon's data centers. In February, he shared a hand-drawn map of Amazon's Virginia-based AWS "with suggested entry and exit routes."

The FBI source introduced Pendley to a secret FBI agent who pretended to be a supplier of explosives. Pendley gained confidence in the "provider" and told him he planned to bomb servers used by the FBI, CIA, and US federal agencies in general. He also wanted to hit the oligarchy that currently rules the United States.

FBI agent ineffective "explosives" delivered
On April 8, Pendley met with the FBI agent to obtain explosives, but the "explosive" he received was ineffective. The agent gave him training in the use and detonation of the "explosive".

When Pendley placed the "explosive" in his car and was about to drive his way, he was arrested and searched.

If Pendley is found guilty of plotting to blow up Amazon's data center in Virginia, he risks up to 20 years in prison.
