The code name for Microsoft's brand new Outlook platform is Monarch.
Monarch is a brand new email experience from Microsoft
Monarch is actually based on Outlook so the email service acts as a web app in the browser at the time of writing.
Microsoft's goal is to unite the email client across all platforms, including PC, Mac, and the web. The client will be equal to use across all devices and have a far more efficient code base regardless of whether you use the consumer or corporate version.
The beta testing starts this year
Windows Central has heard that the service will support offline storage, notifications, and more and that Microsoft's goal is for the email service to feel like a real app even if it's based on a web app.
The beta testing will take place at the end of the year, and it is also a goal to replace the Mail and Calendar apps, but it will hardly happen before 2022. The goal is also to get rid of the Win32 program, but it will take many years.
The news comes at the same time as the revelation that Microsoft is working on a total overhaul of Windows 10
