Edge is much more battery friendly and you can test now

Microsoft should finally do something smart that makes sense: hibernate tabs that are not active.

You can test the beta version (88.0.705.18) now for a more efficient Edge
In this way, the CPU can be used less (up to 37 percent), and therefore also the battery life is extended at the same time as the RAM usage is cut by up to 32 percent.

The new beta version (download) that activates this is available now and is based on Chromium 79 which in turn makes this possible.

Note that audio and video tabs are obviously not frozen.

Edge will be heavily updated in the spring of 2021
The new version is also smart in that it does not freeze web pages they know do not support it, thus avoiding potential crashes of the browser and/or tab.

A major upgrade comes in the first half of 2021 with a new design and interface improvements.
