Microsoft is probably in the process of rounding off the corners of the interface, at least in its own apps if not a UI requirement.
This small improvement affects the user experience more than you think
It does not take much to make a major improvement. Apple found this out when they chose to go for round corners in the macOS interface, and now Microsoft has started the work of rounding the corners, if the Tips app is something to go on.
This is a good thing because we think it suits the overall design, perhaps with the exception of the Start tiles as then.

Microsoft is testing this internally
So far, only the Microsoft tips app has been updated with rounded corners; the rest are mockups based on how this will look in other apps.
From before, Microsoft has changed the start menu so that the tiles match the color palette in Windows.
