macOS 10.15.4 creates major problems for many. Make sure you copy a lot.
macOS 10.15.4 creates a headache for many users, especially those who copy large amounts of data over 30GB.
Also, the use of external drives presents problems for the life of the disk, and some machines crash completely.
All machines are affected
SoftRAID reports that there are problems when users try to copy large files. The company states that they are working with Apple to solve the problem.
SoftRaid explains that there are a number of disk jobs that can trigger the problem, but typically there are many I / O threads at the same time - this seems to increase the likelihood of problems. And copying more than 30GB is referred to as "difficult" by the company.
Note: this is probably not the time to transfer macOS from your old to your new Mac.
Big disk problems
Other reported problems are that the machine crashes after being woken from sleep and that external disks spin up and down completely randomly, which could cause the disk to fail if this occurs for an extended period of time.
Even worse, users experience very serious errors such as random "kernel panic" stops on the MacBook Pro 16, the company's most expensive laptop, as well as problems with the Finder hanging. We hope none of these situations can result in data loss or that you lose something you have been working on. Make sure you store everything you can, all the time.
We expect a statement from Apple soon where they will probably announce that a macOS update is underway. Maybe already next week?
If you have major issues with this version and don't mind possible other errors (which may be smaller and possibly better for your workflow), it may be worth trying the macOS 10.5.5 beta. The problem is that you have to have a developer account.
We've been critical of the Windows 10 updates lately, like many others, but if these errors really affect all Macs, these problems are worse than many of Microsoft's frequent but often minor errors.
Some of them are similar to what some experience with 10.15.4
