It is true that Apple will do what everyone hopes for

In overtime, but still a piece of joyous news.

In overtime, but still a piece of joyous news.

When the next macOS update is released this summer, iTunes will become a less relevant application for the vast majority.

New apps
As we wrote last week, the new version comes with our own dedicated apps for music, podcasts, and TV.

It was the developer Steve Troughton-Smith who first announced these changes via Twitter. Now, 9to5Mac reports the same. The site claims to know from secure sources that Apple separates parts of iTunes and launches its own apps for multiple media categories.

Journalist Guilherme Ramobi claims that the "Books" app also gets new and gets a look more like the Apple News app.

Here there should be separate tabs for "Library", "Book shop" and "Audiobook store". The Library tab will, among other things, display books, audiobooks, and PFDs, according to the website.

Similar across platforms
Design-wise, the apps are quite similar to the iOS versions. Apple uses its Marzipan tool, which allows a single app to run the same on all platforms.

So what happens to iTunes? Well, the program will probably not be completely removed. Although the arguments for using iTunes are getting smaller, it's still used to manually sync older iOS devices.
