It took him only 15 minutes to trick the finger sensor into the Galaxy S10

Get into the phone with 3D-printed fingerprints.

One of the novelties of the Galaxy S10 phones is the finger sensor on the screen based on ultrasound.

But did you know that it can be tricked by a 3D-printed fingerprint stolen from the owner?

The Reddit user darkshark9 has now demonstrated that it is possible.

That's how he did it
First, he made sure his own fingerprint was left in a wine glass. Then he used the S10 phone to take a picture of the fingerprint, then use a 3D printer to make a copy of the imprint.

According to the Reddit user, three attempts were made before the 3D-printed image became perfect, but when it first came in the box, the template worked as well as the finger when trying to unlock the phone.

He claims that the process can take as little as 15 minutes if one is really dedicated to the job. In addition, he points out that the fingerprint is often pasted all over the screen because the owner has pressed it, so it is not necessarily so difficult to obtain the impression either.

Safer than face locking, but…
Because the finger sensor in the monitor is based on capacitive input, he had to manually push the 3D-printed image down the screen to unlock the phone. In other words, it was not enough to just put the imprint on the screen.

Although the finger sensor is pretty much safer than the S10 phone's face lock, the former is not the safest logging mechanism either. In fact, using a number code is safer.
