If you do not switch to the new Windows, you will be denied Steam next year

From January 2024, you can no longer use Steam with older versions of Windows.

Windows 10 and 11 are minimum requirements for next year

Support ceases for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 at this time. This means that the program will not launch from these OSes, and none of the games will be available to the user.

Valve is already warning users with older Windows versions to upgrade to the beta version of Steam. This will be rolled out to the stable version shortly.

Not many will be notified: only 1.86 percent run one of the three old versions, while Windows 10 is used by over 62 percent and Windows 11 by 32 percent.

Older Windows versions have several shortcomings

There is a direct reason for this beyond the fact that the OSes are older and there can be security risks and other problems. The point is that Steam uses a built-in version of Google Chrome "which no longer works on older versions of Windows," says Valve.

As of January 1, 2024, Steam will officially stop supporting Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 operating systems.
After this date, the Steam client will no longer run on these versions of Windows. To continue running Steam and any games or other products purchased through Steam, users must update to a newer version of Windows.

"Additionally, future versions of Steam will require new Windows features and security updates that are only available in Windows 10 and later."
