An ACPI feature called "ACPI Platform Firmware Runtime Update and Telemetry" (PFRUT) "for Linux does something we all want.

And it is possible to update the UEFI and BIOS without having to restart the computer because the OS takes care of all the work. Quite stylish and hard to imagine: almost all hardware, possibly with the exception of certain Bluetooth devices, requires a reboot.

Supported server upgrades can provide almost 100 percent uptime and keep critical services running even during the update of the underlying system.

 

The driver update "pfr_update" comes in Linux kernel 5.17. Updates like this will mainly be to correct critical errors or improve security.

 

Because this is ACPI and Intel, and because both are on PC, this can get Windows it's the way.
