This is improved: lighting functions, sensors, and dynamic lighting assistant improved operation and design changes for the infotainment system, as well as performance and stability improvements.

VW says they are the first "volume producer" with regular OTA updates
"Volkswagen is giving up a notch when it comes to digitization. Following the successful rollout of our all-electric ID family, we are now creating a whole new, digital customer experience with new features and greater comfort. From now on, this will be done every twelve weeks

This makes us the first volume manufacturer to regularly deliver comprehensive Over-the-Air updates. This is an important milestone in the implementation of our ACCELERATE strategy, which prepares Volkswagen for the connected, digital mobility of the future ", says Ralf Brandstätter, Director of Volkswagen.

How to update the cars
The software updates are delivered via mobile data transfer, directly to the central high-performance computers in the ID models (In-Car Application Server, abbreviated to ICAS). In the case of newer cars based on the modern MEB platform, these models take over features that in previous vehicle generations were distributed across a number of control units.

The new electronics architecture is not only more powerful and more intelligent, but it also simplifies the exchange of data and functions between systems in the car. This allows you to access and update up to 35 control units via the Over-the-Air updates. ”
