New updates for Windows 10 are being rolled out

It's the second Tuesday of the month and that means that updates are being rolled out by Microsoft.

Patch Tuesday
In "technical language", this day is called "Patch Tuesday" and is the fixed day for cumulative updates for all supported versions of Windows.

For Windows 10, this means that 2004, 20H2 and 21H1, among others, will receive updates today. Among other things, the new News and Interests feature is now available to everyone, but you can turn it off if you do not want to.

What is somewhat more interesting this round is that Microsoft has posted a notice on its "Health Hub" page that they are working to ensure that all users of Windows 10 version 2004 and 21H1 are automatically updated to the latest version of the OS .

So long has 2004 left of life
This is something that is not normally done until a version is nearing the end of its life cycle and should be removed from the supported list. Version 2004 still has around six months left of its period.

This may indicate that Microsoft is now getting ready to make room for a brand new and updated version of Windows. This is reinforced by the fact that Microsoft is now stopping test updates in anticipation of Windows 11.

We are anxiously awaiting what will be revealed on June 24.
Since all three supported versions are built on the same code base, they receive the same changes. In other words, the updates for 2004, 20H2 and 21H1 have been given version numbers KB5003637 and have build numbers 19041.1052, 19042.1052, and 19043.1052 respectively. Impatient souls can download the update from Microsoft's Update Catalog.

This is new

  • Updates to improve security when using input devices such as a mouse, keyboard or pen.

  • Updates to improve security around Windows OLE (composite documents).

  • Updates for verification of username and password.

  • Updates to improve security when Windows performs basic operations.

  • Updates for saving and managing files.
