Jeff Bezos joins space himself

Jeff Bezos announced via Instagram early today that he will join the spaceship, New Shepard, on Blue Origin's first manned spaceflight on July 20. He takes his brother Mark and the winner of an ongoing auction with him.

A memorable trip, we must assume
On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 landed on the moon. For Jeff Bezos' part, it's just a short jump from Texas, out into space and back again. But it will surely be a memorable trip.

Seeing the earth from space is something that changes you, it changes your relationship with this planet. This trip is something I have wanted to do all my life. It's an adventure. That's a big deal for me.

The auction will end soon
The auction of open seats at New Shepard ends on Saturday. Almost 6,000 participants from 143 countries have submitted bids. The highest bid is currently at 2.8 million dollars or just over 23 million kroner.

You can follow the auction on Blue Origin's website. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Blue Origins Foundation, Club for the Future.

The spaceship New Shepard is named after Alan Shepard, the first American in space.

Goes off in Amazon
Bezos announced in early February that he was stepping down as CEO of Amazon to spend more time on Blue Origin. The spaceflight will take place two weeks after Bezos plans to leave.
