Windows 10 update causes beeps

Microsoft's KB5000842 update of Windows 10 has caused as many issues as it resolved. First, along with the KB5001330 update, it caused gaming performance issues.

Beeping sound at certain settings
Microsoft now says that "a high-frequency or beeping sound may be heard when using 5.1 sound with certain settings". Affected platforms include consumer versions of Windows 10 version 20H2 and Windows 10 version 2004. The issue does not occur in stereo.

 

Microsoft says they are aware of the problem and are investigating.

 

Until a final solution, the two temporary:

• Streaming video or audio in a browser or other software instead of the app affected by the issue.

• Activate spatial sound setting by right-clicking the volume icon in the notification area, select Spatial sound (Off) and select an available option.

Microsoft has no timeline for a proper solution.
