iPhone 12 loses 20 percent battery life with 5G enabled

Samsung and OnePlus beat Apple.

 

Tom's Guide can now reveal that, at least on American networks, you lose a lot with 5G on.

iPhone 12 uses Qualcomm's X55 modem
It is not so strange that 5G loses more, but 20 percent is perhaps more than many are willing to sacrifice? It's raw with GB speeds, especially with mobile as a hotspot, though.

Note that only the iPhone 12 in the US supports mmwave which is even faster (over 1GB / s is not uncommon in certain areas) but has short range.

This is inside the iPhone 12: less battery and so much less

iPhone 12 Pro has better 5G battery life than 12, but Samsung and OnePlus are even better
The figures reveal:

• iPhone 12 5G: eight hours and 25 minutes - iPhone 11: 11 hours and 16 minutes 4G
• iPhone 12 4G: 10 hours and 23 minutes
• iPhone 12 Pro: 9 hours and 6 minutes with 5G - 11 hours and 24 minutes 4G
• iPhone 11 Pro 4G: 10 hours and 24 minutes

The 5G competitors all did better than the iPhone 12, including Samsung and OnePlus.
