Apple strikes back at Epic Games in recent court documents.
Apple recently revealed court documents attacks Epic Games trying to win "mindshare" with creative marketing stunts.
Sweeney does not deny that he wanted Apple to offer them new opportunities, but points out that he did not want Epic to have an exclusive right to the improvements:

If Apple had agreed to the agreement, Epic would have fundamentally changed the way they offer apps in the App Store, the company believes.
… And alternative payment solutions
As everyone knows, Epic Games changed the payment method and included the ability to pay directly to them at a discount, which violates Apple's terms. Apple now believes that this stunt was strategic and that they must have known they would be thrown out.
Apple also defends itself by saying that Microsoft Xbox and Sony Playstation also have closed payment ecosystems and that they are not alone in this.
