Microsoft's next Power Toys update (Microsoft introduced the tool package again in May last year) will feature advanced universal search wherever you are in the OS.

Spotlight for macOS and Alfred for Windows have been popular alternatives to home menu searches for many years due to smarter indexing and the fact that it is more logical to be able to bring up the search box so that it is located right in the field of view, but only with the information you need and not other start menu items.
Microsoft is also partnering with the developers behind Wox to use their plugins in the win + r feature. Examples of plugins are calculators, dictionaries and search engines.
