Most of us may feel that we are typing faster on a physical keyboard, but it does not necessarily have to be this way in the future if the technology evolves far enough.
You can feel the buttons
A new Apple patent approved by the US Patent & Trademark Office describes a new haptic technology called "Static Pattern Electrostatic Haptic Electrodes" designed to make virtual keyboards feel more like a physical keyboard.
This will allow you to feel the edges of each individual key, as well as physically knowing the location of the center of each key.
Exactly it will be absolutely essential if users prefer the virtual over something physical.
Apple describes the technology as follows:
“A vibrating actuator can be configured to provide haptic feedback when input is recorded via a virtual keyboard on a touch panel. Feedback for such components can enhance the user experience because it can simulate physical responses that users expect from traditional three-dimensional and mechanical devices (…) »
iPad first?
According to the pictures from the patent, it may indicate that Apple is considering introducing this new technology to the iPad before the MacBook machines. Nor is there anything in the way of technology finding its way to the iPhone.
While there is no guarantee that the technology will replace physical keyboards, it will at least make virtual keyboards better than they are today.
