Google is currently rolling out a major update to the camera feature of their Translate application. The new edition has received support for another 60 languages (a total of 88 now, Norwegian is among these) and some impressive improvements.

More languages, smoother camera, and better translations
For those of you who actively use application's perhaps most innovative function, this is very good news. So far, the camera function has been very useful in situations where you need to translate signs, menus, posters and the like, but much of this has been characterized by some poor quality in both the translations and the function interface, along with some limited number of languages to translate from.

The fresh update gets rid of these shortcomings - among other things, the translation works much faster and it supports 60 new languages. The key is supposed to have been Google's neural machine translation (AI) translation now implemented in the camera function.

Automatically detects languages
In addition, the updated version of the application will automatically detect which language one has in front of it so that the user does not need to manually set it.

Here you can see a list of languages that work with camera translation in the Translate application after the update. According to the company, the new update is available to perhaps one percent of users today as it rolls out to everyone over the coming weeks.
