How to force USB disks to perform better in new Windows 10

- No energy to eject the disk.

After Microsoft released the Windows 10 update in version number 1809, the USB drive transfer settings have been changed to take advantage of faster device removal rather than faster performance.

You can change it quickly
Previously, it was standard on only some devices with selected formats, while the 1809 update now makes it standard on absolutely all devices. The advantage is that you don't have to pay attention to how to remove the device after use, as you usually have to feed it out before you can safely remove the USB device without losing data.

But if this goes at the expense of slowing down data transfer speeds, then it's not a stupid thing to change the setting to go back as before. To do this, follow some simple steps:

  • Insert the USB device into the machine

  • Start the file explorer, then go into "This PC" to find out which designation your device has

  • Go to the search box in the Windows menu and search for "device management"

  • Find the device that is under "disk drives", right-click for properties

  • Check the "Better performance" checkbox, tick the box below for "enable write speed bugs for the disk".
