When Sega last year accompanied both Sony and Nintendo with their own mini version of a retro game console, they ended up delaying the launch. During this year's Sega party, they announced that the consoles (both Genesis Mini and Mega Drive Mini) will be launched on September 19th.

That said, the launch date is specifically mentioned for the US and Japanese launch, so it is not entirely known whether this applies to Europe, or possibly when launched here.
Among the 40 games that come to the console, so many more classics have been confirmed - of these, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Shining Force, Gunstar Heroes, and Space Harrier II, as well as Rent-a-Hero and Castlevania Bloodlines.
Reminds me of other retro consoles
As with the PlayStation Mini, the Genesis Mini runs through micro USB and is equipped with an HDMI input that provides up to 720p resolution. You can save your progress at any time during a game so you don't have to finish long sequences again, and the controller that comes with is of the six-button type that most people preferred in their time.
As with other Mini editions of various retro consoles that are launched during the day, it does not look like you find support for downloading games afterward, nor an opportunity to insert their own games you may have on disk.
