As we interpret recently Microsoft's activity, we are not the long wait from a public testing period of their new Chromium-based browser. Last week we got a sneak peek at new Edge in some photos you can see here, and it was explained that the first tests only had support in 64-bit Windows 10.

As we interpret recently Microsoft's activity, we are not the long wait from a public testing period of their new Chromium-based browser. Last week we got a sneak peek at new Edge in some photos you can see here, and it was explained that the first tests only had support in 64-bit Windows 10.

 

Many extensions are already available
WalkingCat known to leak Microsoft-related products and services has now come up with a page called "Microsoft Edge Insider Add-ons" listing a bunch of extensions for the upcoming upgraded browser. Right now, the list consists of 82, but it is natural that the number will increase gradually, and especially after launch.

 

Among the extensions you will find generic types such as LastPass, AdBlock, and the like - the whole list can be seen here.

 

Fears strict control of Microsoft
Most Chrome extensions are expected to be compatible with the new Edge as the browser will be based on Chromium.

 

An interesting thing to keep in mind is whether Microsoft will resort to severe limitations and strict regulation of the various extensions that the browser eventually has the potential to run. Neowin writes that Microsoft had for some time had a common practice where the developers had to give them some kind of display of the extension before they could possibly get it approved. Hopefully, this will be less regulated in the new Edge, without it having to go any further than safety.

 

The testing of Microsoft Edge on the new platform is, according to the company, available once in the first half of 2019, and in addition to Windows 10, the browser will be launched on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and macOS.
