It appears that Chinese mobile manufacturer Xiaomi is committed to becoming the largest fingerprint reader on a smartphone after initially slowing down its competitors to acquire the technology. According to Weibo, the mobile manufacturer is actually developing a far more advanced version of such technology.

Larger area for fingerprints
From the article to Weibo and a related video clip, a demonstration of a prototype of a phone with a far larger active area for fingerprint reading measuring 25 x 50 millimeters is shown. In practice, this means that the user can use a larger portion of the screen area to unlock the phone, so you don't have to be so careful when putting your thumb on your mobile.

According to the article author, the new sensor should have a feature in that one can print the screen once to wake up the phone and unlock it.

Not the first ones
It turns out, however, that Xiaomi is not the only company that wants to go for such a solution with a larger area: Vivo showed something similar last year when they presented the concept mobile Apex with a sensor that covered a third of the screen. There was never any of this function since the concept was solved into the production phone Nex.

Oppo has also stated that this is something that comes. The company has announced that it will launch phones this year with fingerprint readers 15 times larger than what has been normal so far. We are excited to see how this works out in practice.
