The iCulture website reports that an Apple Store in Amsterdam in the Netherlands had to be evacuated after an iPad battery exploded.

Had to close
According to the site, no one was directly affected by the explosion, but as it could have resulted in dangerous substances in the air, the store was evacuated and closed so that the fire service could ventilate and extract potentially hazardous chemicals.

There are reports of no serious injuries, but three employees were assisted by first aid personnel due to breathing problems.

One of the staff at the store was quickly on the spot to secure the iPad and the broken battery in a sand container.
