Microsoft finally relents

Later this year, Microsoft will finally make it possible to remove MSN news from the widget overview.

Promise to return user choice

 

We expect it to be Windows 11 23H2 that will get this option. 23H2 is the really big update coming before 2024, implementing a number of AI features, including the ability to control Windows now that Cortana is gone. Testers will be able to try next month. Then we will know more.

 

But back to widgets and the weather app, because Microsoft has for a long time done everything it can to push MSN news into several parts of the interface. You may remember that the weather app just got an upgrade. More functions are all well and good, but MSN News hasn't found its way into a weather app, of all things.

 

There will be more improvements, but probably not before 2024

 

Whether Microsoft, in addition to the widget menu, allows users to disable MSN in the new weather app remains to be seen. In any case, you will be able to change the interface in the widget overview to remove the news completely, instead of the way it is now where you can only give a thumbs down to news you don't like.
