Now the government "take" Google. Sued from all sides

US authorities sued Google last year for violating antitrust laws and discriminating against rivals. The company was given a "trial period" until September 12, 2023. The lawsuit has since been expanded and coordinated with 38 states.

Abuses market power
The 38 states accuse Google of abusing market power by making the search engine as dominant in cars, TVs, and speakers as it is in phones.

Texas has filed a separate lawsuit accusing Google of violating antitrust laws in its online advertising business.

A group of public prosecutors is preparing further lawsuits against Google for violating the antitrust law in the way they run Google Play.

Witness interrogation under oath
The government is planning to question three witnesses under oath, a current Google employee and two who left the company in 2011 and 2013, respectively.

A lawyer at the US Department of Justice said on Tuesday that he wants the testimony scheduled for August to take place in person and not via Zoom and that they return to regular court hearings. The first authorities want to interrogate are in California, but they expect California to reopen.

Judge Amit Mehta of the District of Columbia has considered whether the Department of Justice should require access to the correspondence of the summoned witnesses provided that all personal information is protected.

The days of monopolies counted?
The giant technology companies are under pressure not only in the United States. Also in Europe, they are beginning to get acquainted with the interior of the courtrooms.

There are many indications that society will not accept monopoly formations or monopoly-like business practices for a particularly long time to come.
