If you are experiencing and annoyed that some Android apps are crashing, you are not alone. The issues are due to a bug with Android System WebView, a system component that allows Android apps to view web content.
Google confirmed this to The Verge yesterday:
- We are aware of a problem with WebView that causes some apps on Android to crash for some users.
WebView is pre-installed on all newer Android devices and is updated regularly via the Play Store. It was a fresh and troublesome update that led to the issues.
Update fixes issues
A temporary solution, as recommended by Samsung, among others, was to uninstall the latest update to WebView, but Google has now released a new update that fixes the problem.
To install the new update to WebView, open the Play Store, tap the three bars at the top left and select "My Apps and Games".
Tap to check for updates if it is not ready, and then tap update on both WebView for Android system and Google Chrome, Google states on its support pages.
It should solve the problem of crashing apps.
