Intel goes down the throat on Face ID

Intel launches a new face recognition unlocking system. RealSense ID will take up the fight with Apple's Face ID, which has long been the safest face recognition for mobile.

Not limited to a single platform
RealSense ID differs from Apple's Face ID in that the system is universal and can be implemented in different technology and not just in handheld devices.

According to Intel, the technology can be used in smart locks for homes, different types of points of sale, ATMs, kiosks, and more.

REALSENSE ID COMBINES HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE WITH A DEDICATED NEVRAL NETWORK DESIGNED TO DELIVER FACE RECOGNITION.

Gets to know you over time
With a depth sensor, camera, and artificial intelligence, the system recognizes contours in faces and understands and adapts to how you change over time with a beard, glasses, and skin tone. The system works in different lighting conditions and for different types of appearances.

As Intel says, it is becoming increasingly important to keep data safe. To prevent ID theft and other security breaches, companies are now looking at secure face detection solutions.

RealSense ID has built-in features to detect attempts to cheat with the use of images, videos, masks, etc., and only makes mistakes in one in one million cases.

Easy to use, easy to set up
RealSense ID should be easy to install and does not need to connect to the internet to set up. The idea of Intel seems to be to create a system that is simple and accessible and that will suit a large number of applications.

To ensure that data does not go astray, RealSense ID processes locally, and encrypts everything. The system can only be activated by pre-registered users.

Becomes Apple's competitor in another area
As is well known, Face ID is limited to the iPhone and iPad, while RealSense ID is a universal system. The area of use of RealSense ID is, therefore, larger, but it will also be exciting to see if mobile manufacturers start using the system.

Apple's Face ID and Intel's RealSense ID are similar in that both technologies use depth sensors and artificial intelligence. But we can possibly see RealSense ID in a large number of products in the future, also in products that do not have a camera module before.

Whether the system requires an equally huge bus pocket as Face ID to work in mobile phones remains to be seen.
